Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Spurs fans who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were informed afterwards "they cannot be true Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded two scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth top-flight at home loss of the year.

But the main talking point was the visitors' second goal when Vicario lost the ball well outside his box.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.

However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Tottenham supporters booed him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

One of those booing sessions truly irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Alright booing following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had handed the visitors a early advantage before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half performance.

Ex- top-flight keeper Hart stated that the next score was "totally avoidable".

"I do appreciate the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He's a excellent squad member, he's a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

He stated following the match that he had to take the feedback.

"That score was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.

"My aim was to kick the ball long and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It's on us to stay increasingly calm, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor defeat and it's hard to accept."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten seconds passed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.

"Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about trying to make the correct connection and get it on target. I had a good sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager

While the keeper's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round bad performance for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared club record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against the manager's former club Brentford and champions the Reds to play prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those wins have occurred since the manager took over from his predecessor in the summer.

"If you are down 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," said Frank.

"During in a poor run, everything appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we lost in the early stages.

"We just need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Spurs have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Former Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the stick," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
