President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.

He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Event

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Support

Community members assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“She was the type of pupil that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”

Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Judicial Actions and Government Revisions

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy led the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of travel documents.

Condition of the Airman

Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she planned to meet with the family.

Legacy of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
