Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs Will Skip Concert Series for Cancer Treatment
The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has announced he will miss a segment of his band’s reunion tour as he receives treatment for prostate cancer.
Tour Dates Affected
The 60-year-old musician, a founding member of the group, announced he will not be performing at the scheduled shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Seoul concert is scheduled for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
Statement on His Condition
In a social media post, he disclosed that he was found to have prostate cancer at the start of the year and is reacting positively to therapy.
“Early this year I was found to have prostate cancer. The good news is I’m reacting very positively to treatment, which allowed me to take part in this amazing tour.
“Now, I am having to take a planned break for the subsequent stage of my treatment, so I’ll be missing the concerts in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m really sad to be absent from these events but I’m feeling good and will be back ready to go in time for South America.”
Earlier Cancer Diagnosis
This marks his first health battle. In 2022, Arthurs revealed he had been found to have tonsil cancer.
At that time, he wrote: “Just to inform everyone I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s manageable and I will be beginning a course of treatment soon.”
Musical Journey
Arthurs played in the band The Rain with Liam Gallagher in the start of the 90s before they recruited the singer’s brother, Noel, who subsequently demanded they adopt a new name.
He recorded three records with the group, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before leaving in 1999 during the production of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has frequently played on stage with Liam during his individual projects, including at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021.
He also formed the group Parlour Flames and served as a radio DJ after his time with the group.
