Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
