The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.

The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event filled the stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The event also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
