A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
